My buddy in Cleveland talked me out of a $150 standing desk converter, built one from scrap for $11
I was dead set on buying one of those sit stand desk toppers for my home office setup. My friend Dave works at a metal shop in Cleveland and he came by last month to see my space. He looked at my desk and said "you already got two monitor arms and a keyboard tray, why pay for a whole new surface." That hit me because he was right, I had all the parts sitting there. We took a 2x12 scrap from his garage, cut it to 40 inches, and screwed on some $6 folding shelf brackets from the hardware store. Total build was about $11 and 45 minutes. Now I can raise everything 8 inches and my cable routing still works fine. Has anyone else skipped the expensive riser and just built their own platform?
