Is a standing desk converter actually worth it or just a gimmick?
I tried one of those $60 standing desk converters from Amazon last month to save my back. It clipped onto my old desk and let me raise my monitor and keyboard. But after two weeks, my shoulders ached from the cramped space and the wobble drove me crazy. I'm now thinking about just building a full sit-stand frame from scratch with some pipe and wood from Home Depot. Has anyone else switched from a converter to a DIY standing setup and felt it was worth the extra work?

Count me as someone who went the opposite direction. I actually bought a cheap DIY pipe desk from a guy on Craigslist, and after six months, the wobble was worse than any converter I tested at the office supply store. The pipes weren't tightened evenly, and the whole thing swayed when I typed. Plus, adjusting the height meant loosening bolts with a wrench every time, which got old fast. Your mileage may vary, but from where I sit, a decent converter with a solid base and gas lift beats wrestling with a homemade frame seven days a week.

HOLD UP. You paid a GUY on Craigslist for a pipe desk, @patricianguyen?
