I used to hide all my cables behind a wood panel until a guy at Micro Center in Chicago laughed at me
So for about two years I had this setup where I built a fake wood panel to hide the mess behind my desk, and I was pretty proud of it honestly. But last month I'm at Micro Center in Chicago grabbing a USB hub and this older guy behind the counter asks what I'm using it for, so I tell him about my hidden panel setup. He goes "how do you swap a cable without pulling the whole desk out?" and I just stood there because he was right, every time I needed to plug something in I had to get on the floor and fight with it. He said he keeps his cables in an open tray mounted under the back edge and just zip ties every 4 inches so it looks clean from the front but he can still reach everything. I went home, spent $12 on a plastic tray and a pack of velcro ties, and had it done in like 40 minutes. Now when I want to swap my keyboard cable I just reach under and pop it out, no crawling around. If you're hiding your cables behind something solid, maybe ask yourself when you last had to actually get back there? Curious if anyone else switched from hiding to managing instead.
