I tried those cheap monitor risers from Amazon and they warped in 2 months
Spent $15 on a bamboo riser that sagged in the middle after 60 days with my 27-inch screen, even though it said it could hold 50 pounds. The lesson: you're better off building your own with a solid pine board and four furniture legs for the same price.

MAN that is SO frustrating to hear! I had a similar thing happen with a cheap laptop stand I bought - one of those foldable aluminum ones. After maybe three months the little rubber stoppers just peeled off and the whole thing started wobbling. Ended up using a stack of old textbooks for like six months before I caved and got a proper one. The cardboard box trick actually worked better than the bamboo riser for a while too, just looked like I was running some kind of warehouse operation on my desk.

actually the 50 pound rating is probably not totally false but what they dont tell you is thats the static load not the dynamic load. a monitor sitting still is one thing but if you ever bump your desk or move your monitor around even a little bit the forces change. the cheap bamboo is basically compressed sawdust with a thin veneer so once the internal fibers start shifting its game over. i built mine from a 1x8 pine board stained dark walnut and screwed in some 4 inch furniture legs with locking nuts. cost about $15 but its been solid for like 8 months now with a 32 inch. the key is using solid wood not particle board or that pressed bamboo junk.
