I almost threw out my monitor riser plan after the first wobble, then a $6 corner brace changed my mind
Last month I built a two level monitor riser out of a leftover 3/4 inch plywood scrap and some pine 1x2s I had in the garage, and the thing wobbled like crazy the first time I put my 27 inch screen on top. I was ready to scrap the whole idea and just go back to stacking books, honestly. Then a guy at the lumber desk in Rochester told me to stop relying on glue and screws alone and add small metal corner braces on the back side. I grabbed a 4 pack for $6 and screwed one into each inside corner. The wobble was gone in about 10 minutes, no extra cutting, nothing fancy. I was wrong to think braces were overkill for a simple riser. Now the whole thing feels solid enough that I'd trust it with my tower on the lower shelf. Anyone else use corner braces on plywood builds, or do you have a different trick for killing that side to side sway?
