Heads up about the "cheap" clamp meter I grabbed at the Pomona swap meet
I was walking the tool rows at the Pomona swap meet last Saturday and a guy had a folding table of clamp meters for $12 each. I clipped one onto a spare 12V line on my bench at home just to check it, and it read 4.1 amps on a circuit my good meter says draws 2.6. That is a huge gap for something you might use to size a wire or check a load on your desk build. I opened it up and the jaw was barely closing flush, which is why the reading was off. Before you trust any meter from a swap table, test it against a known load first, has anyone else run into one that reads way off like this?
