Been mounting my monitor arm bracket upside down for 6 months

So I built this desk from scratch back in March and put a gas spring monitor arm on it. Kept wondering why the arm would droop after 2 hours no matter how tight I cranked the tension screw. My buddy stopped by last weekend, took one look at my setup and just started laughing. Turns out the C-clamp bracket was installed with the lip facing down instead of up against the desk edge. Took me 30 seconds to flip it and now the arm holds perfectly at any angle. Has anyone else had a facepalm moment like this where you just skipped reading the manual entirely?

I actually READ somewhere that some monitor arm companies do that whole "just flip it" thing on purpose to test if you're paying attention. Heard a podcast with some designer who said they leave the orientation ambiguous because they figure anyone who can't figure it out probably shouldn't be mounting heavy monitors anyway. Like REALLY? That's the dumbest logic I've ever heard. My cousin works at an electronics store and says they get returns ALL the time from people who gave up after trying to mount the arm backwards. Sticking a simple arrow on the bracket would save everyone so much headache including the companies themselves dealing with all those returns. But no, they'd rather make us feel like idiots for six months.

And honestly I think there's something deeper here. Companies should just print a giant arrow on the bracket pointing up. Like a sticker that says "THIS SIDE FACES CEILING". Would save so many people hours of frustration. They already do it with other furniture. IKEA puts arrows on everything. Monitor arm makers just assume we're all engineers or something. It's not that hard to add a visual cue for people who skipped the manual. A little foam sticker costs them nothing. But instead they let us all struggle and feel stupid.
