Warning: don't buy the $18 "cold air intake" kit off the clearance rack like I did
Saw a universal cone filter kit marked down to $18 at a parts place in Reno last spring and figured it was worth a shot on my 2006 Civic. Spent two hours pulling the factory airbox, got the cone clamped on, and the check engine light came on the next day at 47 miles. My mechanic said the oiled filter fouled the MAF sensor, and cleaning plus a new sensor ran me $210. That cheap kit cost me almost 12 times what I paid, so has anyone here actually made one of those universal intakes work without tripping a code?
