Update: went with the $20 fix over the $180 shop quote for my brake squeal
My front brakes started squealing on my 2013 Corolla around 2 months ago and the shop in Boise quoted me $180 just for pads and labor. I rolled the dice and grabbed a $20 set of ceramic pads from the parts place down the street instead, watched a 15 minute video, and swapped them in my driveway with a $10 C-clamp I already had. Two months later they are still quiet, but a buddy keeps telling me I am nuts for skipping new rotors. Do you all replace rotors every single pad change or only when they measure thin?

Ha, my brother did the same thing with his Civic and those cheap pads lasted like 3 years. Meanwhile I paid for new rotors once and the shop somehow talked me into a brake fluid flush too, so there went $400. If it stops and it's quiet, you're winning.
