Tried replacing my own brake pads, ended up with a stuck caliper

Went to swap the front pads on my 2008 Civic last Saturday and one caliper piston refused to compress no matter how hard I cranked the C-clamp. Turns out the slide pins were corroded to hell, so I spent an extra $45 on a rebuild kit and two hours cleaning everything. Anyone else run into hidden rust issues that turn a simple job into a whole afternoon project?
