The tire shop guy who laughed at my torque wrench habit

About two years ago I brought my wife's Civic into a local shop in Akron for a simple rotation, and the tech saw me marking the lug nuts with a paint pen. He said, "You know that's overkill, right? We just impact them on and they're fine." I stood there and told him I've seen two wheels come loose because someone skipped the torque spec, one on a trailer at 65 mph. He shrugged and said, "Different crowd, I guess," but I've kept my torque wrench in the trunk ever since. Anyone else get mocked for doing it the careful way, or am I the odd one out here?
