That $20 timing light from Harbor Freight actually works fine

I was at a buddy's garage in Nashville last Saturday and he was struggling to set timing on his old Ford. He had this fancy Snap-on light that cost like $200 and it was acting up. I mentioned my cheapo HFT light I got for 20 bucks and he laughed until I pulled it out of my car and it worked perfectly on the first try. Has anyone else had good luck with the cheap timing lights or did I just get lucky?
