Swapped my old spark plugs after 60k miles and the engine purrs now
Had this rough idle for months. Thought it was something major. Finally pulled the plugs last Saturday and three of them were totally fouled. Put in new copper ones for $18 total. Instant difference. Smoother acceleration and no more stuttering at stoplights. Anyone else put off spark plugs way longer than they should?

Hold up, copper plugs don't last 60k miles like iridium ones do.

My 2005 Civic with 180k miles is still running on the original copper plugs from the factory. I checked them at 100k and they still looked fine with just a light tan color. I'm not saying copper lasts forever, but if your engine is running clean and you don't drive it hard, they can go way longer than people think. Iridium plugs are great for high-performance engines that need the extra spark, but for a regular daily driver that sees normal driving, copper does the job just fine for a lot longer than 30k miles.
