Realized I've been checking my tire pressure wrong for 5 years after a gas station guy in Tulsa pointed it out

I always checked them cold in the morning like everyone says, but last Tuesday he showed me my door jamb number was for cold tires at 65 degrees, and here in Arizona summer they heat up to 120 after 10 minutes driving, so I was running 5 PSI too low and ruining my tread for years, anyone else ever had their recommended pressure not match real-world conditions?

Wait, isn't that what the door sticker is for though? I read somewhere that tire pressure is supposed to be checked when the tires are cold, not after driving. That Tulsa guy might have been wrong too.
