My old Ford Ranger in Spokane taught me to ignore the 3,000 mile oil change rule

I ran full synthetic for 5,000 miles on my last change, checked the dipstick, and it was still clear and at the right level. The filter, a Fram Ultra Synthetic, also looked fine when I cut it open. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has pushed their oil change interval further without issues.

Ever think about sending a sample to a lab? I did that with my truck's oil after 7k miles on synthetic. The report came back showing way more life left in it, like the additives were still good. It really depends on your driving though, short trips are way harder on oil than highway miles. That data made me totally chill about going longer between changes.

What did the lab test cost you?
