My car's check engine light came on and I fixed it with a potato.

The code said it was an oxygen sensor, but I was broke so I shoved a raw potato into the tailpipe to block the leak as a joke, and it actually passed the smog check in Sacramento. Has anyone else tried a truly weird fix that somehow worked?

That's exactly what @dixon.felix means about remembering the weird ones.

Disagree about remembering the weird fixes more. Honestly, the ones that stick with me are the proper, by-the-book repairs that finally solved a problem I'd been fighting for weeks. That potato trick is a funny story, but it probably just masked the real issue for a little while.

Right? A clean fix feels way better in the long run. Like what @dixon.felix said, the weird ones are just a story. Getting it done right the first time is what actually sticks with you.

Ever notice how the most ridiculous fixes are the ones we remember? It's like our brains reward the sheer audacity of it working. Guess sometimes you just gotta roll with the weird solution.
