My buddy's 4-word critique about my brake fluid flush technique

Honestly, I've been flushing brakes for like 8 years using the two-person method where one pumps and the other opens the bleeder. My friend Mike watched me do it on my 2017 Civic in his driveway in Akron and just said "you're drawing air in." He was right, the way I was letting the pedal fully release was pulling fluid back through the threads and aerating it. Switched to a speed bleeder valve with a one-way check, cost me $14 for the set, and now my pedal feels way firmer after every flush. Has anyone else been doing the old method wrong this whole time, or was I just the last to figure it out?

Mikes got a point. Bleeders are dirt cheap and worth it.
