My alternator died on the freeway and I fixed it for $45
Last Tuesday my battery light flickered on during my commute near Sacramento and then the car died at a stoplight. Turns out the alternator bearings seized up and shredded the belt. I watched a 20 minute video and swapped it in my apartment parking lot with a basic socket set and a pry bar. The reman unit cost $45 from a local parts store and I only needed a breaker bar for one stubborn bolt. Anyone else tried rebuilding their old alternator instead of replacing it?

Rebuilt mine once. Saved the core charge and bought beer with it.
