My alternator belt snapped on the highway last Wednesday, and I fixed it for $22
I was driving home from a job in Cleveland when I heard a squeal and lost power steering. Pulled over, saw the belt was shredded, and swapped it in 45 minutes with a $22 belt from AutoZone. Anyone else carry spare belts in their trunk just in case?

yeah man, that exact same thing happened to me a few years back on the interstate and it was the middle of the night in the rain. i wasn't prepared at all and had to wait like three hours for a tow truck. belt snapped on my old civic and i was just stuck there feeling dumb. ever since then i always keep a spare belt and a basic tool kit under the back seat, it's one of those things where you learn the hard way and then never forget it again. forty five minutes and twenty two bucks is a good day compared to the headache i went through.

My alternator went out in a blizzard once, that was a whole different kind of fun.
