Just figured out why my oil changes were always a mess
I’ve been changing oil on my old Civic for two years, but every time I’d spill half of it down the side of the engine block... turns out I was threading the drain plug back in without cleaning the grime off the threads first. A friend saw me cussing over a puddle and pointed out that crusty dirt was blocking the seal. Anyone else have a dumb simple fix like this that saved them time and cleanup?

Bruh that's basically the automotive version of forgetting to wipe before you put the cap back on a water bottle. Moisture and grime just love to ruin a good seal apparently. Glad you finally figured it out before the engine did.

forgetting to wipe before you put the cap back on" is exactly what I used to do honestly. I always thought a little dirt didn't matter but now I get why a clean seal is everything.
