Is synthetic blend oil actually worth the extra 8 bucks? I've seen mixed results on my 2010 Corolla

So I've been doing my own oil changes for about a year now, and I keep going back and forth between conventional and synthetic blend. Last change about 3 months ago, I went with conventional and after 2500 miles the oil looked pretty dark and gritty on the dipstick. This time I used synthetic blend, same car, same driving, and at 3000 miles it still looks golden and clean. I mean, is that just a coincidence or does the extra cost really buy you longer engine life? Has anyone else noticed a real before-and-after difference switching oil types on an older daily driver?

Right there with you, the synthetic blend definitely kept my oil looking way cleaner too.

Respectfully, I think you might be overthinking this. Synthetic blend is better than conventional but on a 2010 Corolla with that many miles, the real difference is probably more about your driving habits and how often you change it. Just run conventional and change it every 3k miles, it'll be fine. The oil looking darker on conventional doesn't mean it's failing, it just means it's doing its job of cleaning stuff out. Save the $8 and put it toward gas or something.
