I quit paying $120 for oil changes and did it myself for $35, here is my story
I used to bring my Honda to the dealer every 5k miles and hand over $120 without blinking, which adds up to almost $1000 over two years. A buddy at work said he does his own in 20 minutes in his driveway with a $25 wrench and a $35 jug of oil and filter from Walmart. I finally tried it and yeah, it took me 40 minutes the first time because I could not get the drain plug loose and had to watch a YouTube video twice. I saved $85 that day and now I do it every time in my garage in about 15 minutes flat. The only thing I messed up was forgetting a new crush washer the first time and it dripped a little, but a $1 pack of those fixed it. Has anyone else been paying dealer prices for years before switching to DIY? What was the repair that finally made you stop going to the shop?
