I finally stopped believing in expensive synthetic oil for my old truck
For 5 years I ran Mobil 1 in my 1998 F-150 because everyone said it was better for high mileage engines. Then I switched to a cheap conventional oil change at a local shop in Phoenix after 3 months of tight funds and actually saw my oil pressure gauge read higher. Anyone else find their old beater runs just fine on the cheap stuff or am I asking for sludge problems?

Read a thing from an old mechanic who said high mileage engines get used to one type of oil and switching can mess with seals and deposits. Bet your truck was so used to the cheap stuff that the Mobil 1 was too thin or something. I put SuperTech in my 2001 Silverado and it runs smoother than when I used name brand lol. Sludge is more about not changing it often enough than the brand, so if you swap every 3k you'll be fine.
