I finally admitted my brake bleeding technique was wrong after a buddy watched me do it

I've been bleeding brakes for years using the old pump and hold method. A friend came over to help with my 2005 Tacoma and said I was letting air suck back in at the bleeder valve. He showed me to keep a hose submerged in fluid while cracking the valve and now my pedal is rock solid first try. Cost me zero dollars and saved me from buying a power bleeder. Anyone else have a basic thing they did wrong for years?

Wait, what? You're telling me that just having the hose submerged in fluid the whole time is the actual trick? I've been doing the same pump and hold dance for like 15 years on all my trucks and never even thought of that. That's crazy simple.

Is it really that serious though, like a hose sitting in fluid is some kind of magic trick?
