Hit 50,000 miles on my 2008 Corolla doing all my own oil changes
I rolled over 50,000 miles last week on my beat up Corolla and it hit me that I've done every single oil change myself since I bought it at 120,000 miles. That's over 30 oil changes at home, every 5,000 miles like clockwork. Cost me maybe $25 each time with filter and 5 quarts of conventional. A shop would have charged $50 to $70 easy. That's at least $750 I kept in my pocket over 6 years. Plus I caught a loose belt tensioner at 45,000 miles because I was under the hood anyway. Anyone else track how much cash they've saved doing their own basic maintenance?
