Had to choose between a $20 code reader and a $200 one at AutoZone last week

My check engine light popped on in my 2012 Honda Civic, so I went to the AutoZone on Main Street to grab a scanner. I picked the cheap $20 model over the pricey one cause I just needed the code, not all the extra features. It read P0420 (catalytic converter issue) just fine, and I saved enough to buy the parts myself. Has anyone else gone budget on a code reader and regretted it later?

Oh man, I used to be all about spending more on tools but you totally proved the cheap one works just fine. I grabbed a $20 scanner last month and it's done everything I've needed so far.

Yeah same thing happened to me. Bought the cheap one from AutoZone a couple years back and it's still going strong. @elizabeththomas is right, you don't need all that extra stuff unless you're a mechanic or something.
