Debate: Should you change oil every 3k miles or follow the manual? A blown engine changed my mind.
I used to stick to the 3k rule on my old Ford Focus out of habit. Then my buddy's Honda Civic blew a head gasket at 120k miles because he followed the manual's 7.5k interval. Now I'm torn: is it safer to over-service or trust the engineers? Where do you land on this debate?

Honestly that's rough about your buddy's Civic, that really sucks. Tbh I think there's a middle ground that a lot of people miss. Ngl I do my own changes at 5k miles on my Toyota, just feels like a safe bet without being paranoid about it. Following the manual to the letter seems risky sometimes, especially if you drive hard or in bad traffic. But going 3k on a modern car with synthetic oil feels like throwing money away too.

Does your buddy's Civic have any weird issues now?
