Changed my oil in a Walmart parking lot after the drain plug stripped
It was 10 PM in Tucson and I cross-threaded the plug on my Civic, so I had to rig a rubber gasket from a broken flip-flop to get home. Has anyone else MacGyvered a fix like that or is it just me?

Hold up, you used a flip-flop as a gasket? That's wild. The heat from the engine must have melted that thing into a sticky mess on the drive home. I've used cardboard for a temporary fix on a radiator hose once, but a piece of rubber from a sandal is a whole new level of desperation. Did it at least get you all the way home or did it start dripping oil by the time you hit the freeway?

Flip-flop rubber actually holds up better than you'd think in heat, I've used a chunk of croc sole before and it didn't even soften. Just make sure you clean both surfaces with brake cleaner first, otherwise it'll leak through any dirt or grime.
