Vent: The hardware store's wood cutter gave me pieces that won't fit together

I took some pine boards in to get cut for a basic plant stand. The employee marked my lengths and said it would be perfect. When I got home, not a single joint was square and the pieces were all different widths. Now I have to sand everything down by hand just to make it work.

Wait, they marked the lengths themselves and still messed it up that badly? How does that even happen at a hardware store? I'd be so mad if I trusted their service and got back a pile of scrap wood. That's the whole point of having them cut it for you!
