Vent: my neighbor's shortcut comment about my shed framing got me thinking

So my neighbor Bob saw me framing my shed last week and said I was wasting time with hurricane ties everywhere. He builds decks for a living and said I should just use screws instead of those metal brackets. But I looked it up and for a 12x16 shed in my area, the wind load rating actually needs those ties. Has anyone else had a neighbor or friend tell you you're overbuilding something and then you second guess yourself?

Man, Bob probably doesn't see the wind load charts he's not building to.

Trust the wind charts over Bob's decking experience, different loads and all that. Grab the IRC code for your zone and show him the actual requirements if he brings it up again. You're doing it right, sheds fail all the time from people skipping the hurricane ties.
