That YouTube guy said rip out the old wiring, he was right and I owe him an apology
Three years ago I argued with a commenter named "WireWizard65" about keeping my 1980s aluminum branch circuits instead of replacing them. Last month the kitchen outlet sparked and melted the cover plate, so I finally pulled all of it out over two weekends. Anyone else stubbornly stick with outdated advice until something nearly catches fire?

The spark and melted cover plate part hit home. My buddy Dave had the same setup in his place and swore it was fine until his bathroom outlet literally started smoking one night. He pulled the wire out and the insulation was crumbly and cracked, like old rubber bands. Cost him a full weekend and a ton of cussing, but he said the peace of mind was worth every second of the crawlspace work.
