That fancy dust collector at the maker space nearly lit my project on fire

I was at the Makers Collective in Austin last month running my CNC router when the dust collector started smoking bad. Turns out the fine wood dust had packed into the motor housing and it overheated because nobody cleaned the filter in like 6 months. Now I check my own shop vac filter every single session. Has anyone else had a dust collector overheat on them?

Did you check if the motor had any vents blocked by all that packed dust?

Honestly, a buddy of mine had a shop vac that kept dying on him, turned out the exhaust vent was completely caked with drywall dust and it was overheating every time. He blew it out with an air compressor and it ran like new after that.
