That $60 used planer I snagged off Craigslist? Regret city.

Picked up a Dewalt 735 from some guy in Hillsboro about a year ago. Looked fine sitting in his garage, fired up no problem. Got it home and after three boards the feed roller just locked up. Ended up spending $90 on parts and a Saturday taking the whole thing apart. Anyone else been burned buying used tools from a guy who swears it only needs a new belt?

Did the guy have ANY receipts or paperwork for that belt? How long did the thing actually sit in his garage before you bought it?

Did you ever figure out what kind of leather it was, or if the stitching was actually original? I've been burned before on stuff people swore was "garage kept" for years, only to find out it was in a damp basement the whole time. It's really frustrating when you think you're getting a good deal and then start doubting everything about the story. I feel for you, honestly, because once that doubt creeps in, it's hard to shake. At the end of the day, if the price was right and it looks good, maybe it doesn't matter if he had a receipt or not. But the not knowing part can eat at you.
