Showerthought: I was ready to replace a whole deck board after my miter saw blade chipped the edge.

My neighbor in Phoenix said to try a sharp utility knife and score the cut line first, so I gave it a shot on a scrap piece of treated pine. Zero tear out, just a clean line that saved me buying a new 12 foot board. Why don't they teach that simple trick in any of the beginner guides?

Honestly saw a woodworking video that mentioned scoring with a knife first. Tbh it's one of those old-school tricks that just works. Saved my plywood project last month too.

Oh man, that's a solid tip. I read the same thing in some forum thread a while back, basically what @anna_craig said. It's wild how the simple fixes are always the best ones.
