yeah that "nearly cost me my toes" part got me. those cheap stands are scary wobbly.

Some people don't realize the weight of the stand itself matters too. I had a cheap one that was so light it would slide across the garage floor if I bumped into it. Ended up drilling anchor bolts into the concrete just to keep it from moving around.
