PSA: A guy at the Denver wood show talked me out of buying a $300 dovetail jig last month

I spent two hours cutting tails by hand on scrap pine in my garage after watching him do it, and now I keep the $300 in my pocket and my cuts look better than the jig ever gave me, so has anyone else ditched a tool after seeing a guy just do it by eye?
