Pressed wood filler into my miter gaps for 3 years until a stair guy in Raleigh asked why I wasn't cutting the joint right in the first place
He watched me slather a gap on his railing job and said he'd never seen anyone hide a bad cut with filler when a 2 dollar feeler gauge and a 45 degree stop block on my miter saw would fix it at the source, and now my corners close so tight I stopped buying filler altogether.
