My timber frame level finally made sense after 8 years of winging it
Honestly, I always thought a cheap torpedo level was good enough for posts, but last month I was setting a 12x16 shed base in Tacoma and the whole top plate came out 3/4 inch off. My neighbor, who builds barns, walked over and handed me his 6-foot box level, told me to stop trusting my eyes and start trusting a dead straight edge. I checked my old one against it and it was off by a tiny bubble, enough to throw everything. That one piece of gear changed how I check every corner now, and I feel dumb for not buying a proper one years ago. Has anyone else had a basic tool quietly lie to them for that long without noticing? What finally tipped you off?
