My basement window well filled with water after a 3 inch rain last Tuesday
I had this old corrugated metal well that rotted out at the bottom over the 8 years I've lived here, so water just pooled against the foundation all night. Dug it out last weekend and replaced it with a plastic baffle system that channels water away through a gravel trench, cost me about $60 in materials. Has anyone swapped their old window wells for the new style and noticed a big difference in how dry your basement stays?

Honestly, that old rotted out metal is a nightmare because it just holds water against your foundation like a bowl. I switched to a plastic well with a drain pipe buried in gravel and my basement hasn't smelled damp or had any seepage since, even after heavy storms. Tbh the $60 is a steal compared to the peace of mind from not having to shop vac out a window well every time it rains hard.

Tbh the $60 is a steal compared to the peace of mind" is right. I did the same swap after a similar flood and my basement's been bone dry. Best sixty bucks I ever spent.
