I finally saw the difference 6 months of daily leveling made on my patio slab
I poured a small 10x12 slab in my backyard last spring and didn't think much of it, just screeded it by eye and let it cure. Fast forward to last week when I noticed the low corner had a puddle that stayed for two days after a rain, so I checked with a 4-foot level and found a half-inch drop across the slab. Has anyone else had a slab settle that much in just half a year?

Give it time, that slab's probably just getting comfortable in its new home. Half inch in six months is actually pretty standard for a DIY job that wasn't perfectly prepped, especially if the ground wasn't compacted well. At least now you've got a built-in bird bath feature.

Funny how that works with DIY projects, isn't it? I've noticed the same pattern with pretty much everything I try to fix around the house. You prep as best you can, tell yourself it's good enough, and then six months later you're staring at some new quirk you've gotta live with. My fence posts are a prime example. Thought I had them set solid, then last spring half of them decided to lean at different angles like they were trying to have a conversation with each other.
