Dropped $260 on a cheap stud finder, saved my whole drywall job

Bought a basic magnetic one at the hardware store after my fancy LCD unit kept lying about wires. Worked perfect on 3 different walls in my basement remodel. The old one missed a live cable behind the plaster, almost drilled straight into it. Have any of you had luck with the simple magnetic kind over the pricey digital ones?
