Comparing a cheap laser level to a nice one on my shed build

I spent $28 on a laser level from Amazon for my shed foundation last month. The lines were so faint I had to work in the shade and squint just to see anything. Then I borrowed my buddy's Bosch unit that costs around $150 and it was night and day. The bright green lines showed up clear even in direct sunlight, and the self-leveling actually held steady. I figure I wasted two whole afternoons fighting with the cheap one. Anyone else find that paying more for a laser level is worth it, or did I just pick a bad budget model?
