Vent: I rode 2,000 miles with my chain on the wrong side of the derailleur tab
For about 8 months I could not figure out why my rear shifting felt rough no matter how much I tweaked the barrel adjuster. Last Saturday a guy at the bike co-op in Tempe pointed at my rear derailleur and laughed, because the chain was routed on the outside of the cage tab instead of through it. I felt like a fool, but the fix took 30 seconds and now it shifts like a new bike. Has anyone else caught a simple mistake that made them feel dumb after months of fiddling?

Dude, been there. Spent a whole summer once fighting a skipping chain and it turned out my quick link was on backwards. The little arrow pointing the wrong way. I must have looked at that thing fifty times and never noticed. There's something about staring at the same problem over and over that makes your brain stop actually seeing it. Good on the co-op guy for catching it, those folks are worth their weight in gold.
