TIL my chain lube habit was making things worse

My drivetrain was super noisy last week, and I kept adding more lube thinking it was dry. Turns out I was just gunking it up with old grease and dirt. How often do you all actually clean and re-lube your chains?

Oh man, I did the EXACT same thing last season! I was just adding more lube on top of the old stuff. Total mess. What finally worked for me was a good degreaser and a simple brush. I clean it every couple of weeks now, or after any really muddy ride. Then I let it dry completely before putting on a thin layer of fresh lube. The difference in noise was huge.
