Shop quoted me $85 to bleed my brakes, I did it with a $12 syringe kit, so which way is right?
Last week my rear brake lever on my commuter felt spongy, and the shop in Sacramento said a full bleed would run $85, but a buddy handed me a $12 syringe and hose kit and I had it done in 25 minutes at home. Now he says home bleeds never get the air out right and you should always pay a shop, while I think that's just fear of a little DOT fluid on the garage floor. So for the folks here, do you trust a DIY bleed to hold up on long rides, or is this one job where paying up is actually worth it?

Spongy lever after 25 min? Did you get the air out of the caliper too?
