Serious question, did I mess up by greasing my chain with the wrong stuff for 2 seasons?
Honestly for my first two seasons I just grabbed whatever grease was in the garage and slathered it on the chain every month or so, and I figured that was fine since the bike still rolled. Last month I finally bought a $9 bottle of actual chain lube and a cheap chain cleaner, and the difference in how quiet the drivetrain runs is kind of nuts. I live in Tucson so it's super dusty here, and I'm wondering if the thick grease was actually trapping grit and wearing my chain faster that whole time. Did I do real damage to the chain rings, or is it more of a clean it up and move on thing? Also how often do you all actually re-lube in dry dusty spots?
