Question about a $40 chain cleaning tool

I bought one of those chain cleaning kits last month, and honestly, it's been a total waste. It just made a huge mess and didn't get the gunk out any better than my old rag and brush method. Has anyone actually had a good experience with these things, or should I just toss it?

Forty dollars for that? I had the exact same messy experience with mine. They seem like a good idea until you're wiping grime off the floor for an hour.

Tell me about it. Mine left this weird oily film all over the tiles. Had to scrub the whole kitchen twice, and the smell stuck around for days. What a total waste of money and a Saturday morning.
