Pro tip: a $6 chain tool beat my $40 multitool on a stuck pin last Saturday
I was swapping the chain on my commuter in the garage and the pin would not budge with my fancy folding multitool, so I grabbed the cheap dedicated breaker tool I got at the co-op sale and it pushed through in about 10 seconds. Turns out the multitool's pin was slightly bent, which is why it kept slipping off center every time I cranked on it. Anyone else keep a cheap single use tool around just so you don't strip stuff with the fancy one?
Man, this is just how everything works once you look for it. The fancy version is built to do ten jobs okay, and the cheap single job tool is built to do one job well, and somehow we keep reaching for the swiss army knife first. Same deal with kitchen stuff, my $15 dollar paring knife gets more use than the big block of blades. There's a whole pattern of us buying the do-it-all thing for the idea of it and then the humble one-job tool quietly doing the real work. Good reminder to stop fighting a bent pin and just grab the right tool.
