My chain fell off mid-ride and a zip tie saved the whole trip

Tbh I was 6 miles from home on the canal path when my derailleur hanger snapped clean off. I had a stash of zip ties in my saddle bag for fenders, so I lashed the derailleur to the frame, dropped the chain to a single gear, and pedaled back slow without shifting. Has anyone else rigged a temporary fix on the trail that held up longer than expected?

Oh man, I gotta disagree there. Zip ties are great but I've seen them fail right when you need them most, especially on a bumpy canal path. I'd rather walk the 6 miles than risk wrecking my wheel or frame from the derailleur flopping around.
