Just realized I been overthinking my chain cleaning routine

Heard some guy at the shop saying he just wipes his chain with a rag after every ride and lubes it once a month. I been doing the whole degrease, scrub, rinse, dry, lube dance every 2 weeks for the last year. Started doing his thing for about 3 months now and my chain still looks fine plus I saved like $20 on degreaser. Anyone else been doing extra work for no reason?

Man I was out here treating my chain like it needed a spa day every two weeks, meanwhile it probably just wanted a quick wipedown. What made you finally switch it up?

Oh man I was exactly the same way lmao. I used to lube my chain every 100 miles like it was gonna explode if I skipped one ride. Then I realized I was just making a black sludge mess on my frame and wasting money on fancy wax lubes. What got me to chill out was when I got lazy after a rainy week and just wiped the chain with a rag, no fresh lube. Rode just fine for like 200 more miles before it even started sounding dry. Now I'm just like "if it's not squeaking, it's probably fine" and I just wipe off the gunk when it looks gross. Way less stress, way less wasted time.
